GGG is offline

Hi there. GGG, GoogleGuessingGame, has been totally inactive for almost a year now, only ever visited by spammers.
so i have decided to take it offline. this is only a static archival copy, the comment links and all other interactive links no longer function.
if you want to contact me about this project you can do so here.

GGG is getting SPAM-attacked

i have had to block comments.
for now.
i am sorry for any inconveniance this may cause. not likely since GGG seems to have fallen asleep permanently for now…

thing is, i have been exposed to severe attacks by a very obnoxious comment-spammer from texas[!] for days on end now.
weirdly these spams in comments dont even appear on the site any longer, i was able to block that, but it literally gets out of hand still. i receive about 30 email notifications an hour about new comments i need to approve…

so no comments for now! sorry…

it makes me very sad that this project for which i have spent countless hours of my free time would end like this…

edit: i have installed TRENCASPAMMERS which should keep most spammers away. so comments are open again. lets see how it goes…

GGG: THE NEW GGG-STRIPS

HOW TO MAKE A GGG-STRIP?

1. pick a phrase/slogan/claim/saying/movietitle/etc. whatever. but it has to be guessable.
[example: bush stole the election (very bad example, because so untrue)]
2. make one search per word using image.google.com.
[example: 1. search: bush, 2. search: stole, 3. search: the, 4. search: election]
3. pick one image from the 1. result-page of each search and download the thumbnail to a folder. to make it easier you can name the images according to the words they stand for.
[example: bush.jpg, stole.jpg, the.jpg, election.jpg]
4. download new_layout.png as a background.
5. using your favorite image editor crop new_layout.png according to the number of images/words in the phrase.
[cut 3 words at 451px, 4 words at 601px, 5 words at 751px, 6 words no crop]
6. center the thumbnails on the grid.
7. save [or export] your image as .jpg at 70% quality. make sure the images are a maximum of 35k in size.
[for two reasons: one, the load times of the website = the bigger the images the slower GGG loads. two, serverspace. this is an unsponsored project and all the bandwidth on me ;-)]
8. name the image ?words??.jpg for now [3words??.jpg, 4words??.jpg, etc.]

HOW TO UPLOAD YOUR GGG-STRIP

1. send it to me in an email and i’ll post it as soon as possible. much good!
2. upload the image to your server and email me the url of the GGG-strip and i will post it as soon as possible. much better!
3. email me to have me set up an account for you and i will send you instructions on how to upload GGG-strips and post them yourself. much bestest!

GGG: evaluation 100

the stats after 100 GGG-strips:

phlow: 28 solved [28%! more than every 4th strip]
cory: 18 [almost every 5th]
worthy_m: 15
tar_heel: 13
monkeypunk & rrothechild VII: 5 each
josella & RRT: 3 each
jack, wurzeltod & habi: 2 each
another road side attraction, padd, steve & scott tarpley: 1 each

in these last 25 GGG-strips phlow has guessed the most, 11, second comes worthy_m with 5, cory and tar_heel with 4. monkeypunk solved 1.

100 GGG-strips. all of them have been solved. even the really tough, seminal GGG088 was solved by phlow. after much persistance.

phlow and a few other people have contributed riddles. cheerz a bunch!

but in the near future i would like to turn GGG into a much more collaborative effort.
for various reasons.
1. and foremost i am slowly running out of ideas for smart strips.
2. its a considerable amount of work to keep producing strips almost daily.
and 3. there are still not that many people playing GGG. we seem to stagnate. so maybe if more people get involved in producing strips that will get more people to start playing?

there are a few things i need to be thinking through, like how to make the producing of GGG-strips much easier, and then i will announce it early next week.

another goal: find a sponsor for prices after certain intervals. any ideas anyone?
[i am so sorry Phlow that i did not find a price you liked now…]
